Last week was a big week for Golden Boy; I have been putting off sending him to nursery, I thought I would wait until he was 3, I had many excuses; he is too young, he needs me, he is around other children anyway due to my work so he is getting all he needs here, he needs me, he wouldn’t be happy to go yet, he needs me… But then I got to thinking that maybe he needs a bit of a break from me, just a little one, so I enrolled him in the local nursery for a couple of mornings a week and last week was his first day.
I was very nervous, he was very excited about his new Thomas bag and Minion bottle. Within minutes of him arriving he was playing with a lady and I made my escape, looking behind me every couple of seconds expecting/slightly hoping he would come running for his mummy. But he was fine. I spent my 2 or so free hours tidying, baking and watching the clock, I got a text halfway through telling me he was fine – but I am sure they say that to all parents to keep them calm… I went to collect him way to early and ended up standing in the freezing cold for ages, eventually we were allowed in and I was ready to greet my puffy-eyed distraught child, promising to never leave him again.
I was actually greeted by a beaming enthusiastic little boy who couldn’t tell me everything he had done quick enough; um um um play-doh, um um um down slide, um um um sticking, etc, he didn’t pause for a breathe all the way home. What can I say he loves it, he asks to go every morning and every afternoon when we pass the nursery on the school run. Okay so it was time, but I am sticking to only 2 mornings a week at the moment, the other 3 are mine!
This wasn’t the end of Golden Boys big week. It was time for his first haircut! Too many people were mistaking him for a girl…
So Saturday morning we had a little trip to the hairdressers; he was ever so good, sat on his dad’s lap and did as he was asked. It was a bit of a challenge with how to cut it as it is grows so crazily but she trimmed it back as much as she could without making it look too short.
He looks beautiful. Of course.
And our worry about losing his curls if he had a haircut was unnecessary.
