This weekend was a big one for us; after not much socializing and terrible weather since we have been back from Turkey it was time for our annual BBQ – and it was wonderful, the sun shone and family and friends visited, I couldn’t have been happier. And the bouncy castle as always was a success.
For me lots of planning goes into a gathering, lists galore; chores, shopping list, menu, playlist, but time is never on my side – I am very impressed I made 4 cakes whilst working from 8am until 9pm on the Friday, the boys helped, but goodness was it messy – I think I was almost ready when everyone turned up – I do apologise Auntie for not putting duvet cover on duvet.
We watched the weather forecast all week and showers were predicted for Saturday right up until Friday and then there was a picture of the sun! so no cancellation messages were sent out and when we woke up Saturday morning, there it was, no clouds, just sunshine, wahoo.
The bouncy castle arrived at 10am and by 1pm the BBQ was smoking away. Although it was definitely a quieter year this year than previous with people either being away or just not turning up… there was still a lovely lot of friends and family and the bouncy castle was well used. The back garden was a very chilled area with people sitting around chatting and consuming – a completely different atmosphere to out the front with the over-excited children. After much meat was eaten the cakes were brought out and although I had mixed feelings about them, not much was left in the end, and as soon as it got dark the fire pit was set up and the boys got to play with it – men and fire! – marshmallows were roasted, and after a long day we were in bed just after 1am and I felt very happy to have been surrounded by everyone. I just wish we could do something like that every weekend…
I am sorry to go on about the weather but when I dragged myself out of bed the next – oh the joy of a weekend and daddy and lots of family to be with Golden Boy – it was raining, we were so lucky.
Sunday was a slow day, with Nanny and Grandad Al still with us we just sat around chatting, and late afternoon when the sun came out we forced ourselves to have a walk along the beach, and it was lovely, a great end to a really good weekend.
Yes he has a saw in his hand – some children like to carry around a cuddly toy, Golden Boy insisted on a saw
Biggy betted either money or an ice cream – can’t remember which – that they couldn’t touch the pole – he was just hoping someone would fall in the sea – come to think of it, he hasn’t coughed up…
Family tradition – Biggy cannot resist balancing a can of beer – I must add not his, one that someone has left on the beach, which is not hard to come by – and then everyone tries to knock it down – it gets very competitive.
